Norwegian Antibodies is dedicated to the humane practice of producing polyclonal antibodies in chickens (IgY).
Chickens produce an immunoglobulin similar to IgG called IgY. In chickens IgY is actively transported from the blood to the egg yolk, and antibody concentration is higher in yolk than blood.
At Norwegian Antibodies IgY is isolated from egg yolk of hyperimmune eggs. Hyperimmune eggs are eggs from chickens that have been repeatedly immunized with an antigen of choice. This represents a humane and efficient way of antibody production that does not involve bleeding or animal sacrificing.
In the first purification step, the complete IgY is isolated from hyperimmune eggs. Complete IgY contains 2-10 % antigen specific IgY depending on the immunogenicity of the antigen. IgY from Norwegian Antibodies may be delivered as complete IgY containing the whole IgY of hyperimmune eggs or as antigen-affinity purified IgY containing only the antigen-specific antibody fraction.
